Better than Ruff Ryders though, and that aint even a contest Published. But yet again, a major Roc release is dragged down by underwhelming production.Beanie is rapping well on here, not near his height, but hes still good.Beats like this need to be saved for artists like Memphis Bleek not for someone who can actually rap like Beanie Final Verdict: Doubt Ill ever come back to anything besides Anything.
Launched by some high-level collaborations, at the end of the nineties Sigel is among the hottest names in the game: hes called to take the really heavy, even at the time legacy of Jay-Z after his other protg, Memphis Bleek, was not up to par. Jay-Z helps him in this LP by providing him some of the best producers, Kanye West Just Blaze, but Sigel doesnt kill theirs beats. Just Blazes cuts good, both Sigel and Memphis Bleek deliver hardcore and a good track comes out. Bink starts the part where the album falls, realizin a poor production that works halfway saved by Jay-Z. So, then arrives the lowest point: Robert Kirkland decides that Pac Man can become a beat for a hip hop song, shit is weak. Jay-Z tryina raise up Sigels debut, but Amil plays on the other side, drop a pathetic hook, you cant understand what she doing, almost imperceptible, this weak boom bap kills her: lame cut. Sigel doesnt seems to recover til Lofey provived a better boom bap Eves almost good in the hook. In the second half, The Truth it improves with some good productions (Rockwilder, Buckwild, Bink which redeems himself) and some good lyrics: him Scarface seem could go on to infinity over a J-5s expendable production, at the end Vanderpool creates a nice jazzy high-profile boom bap that fit pretty good with Sigels hardcore delivery. This record ends with Anything, bonus track discarded by Jay-Zs Vol. ![]() Its noteworthy despite its obvious commercial attempt cos its eveloping and is one of the best among his late nineties records, despite the fact that the hook is almost unlistenable. ![]() Solid album, his beats are as hard and raw as his rap, the excellent production has a cohesive, solid, hard sound and his rap is determinate. Sigel details his arguments quite well, although its not original and his convinced delivery begins to become monotonous as the minutes pass. His flow, while distinctive, solid, smooth and rough, almost never changes and the album isnt innovative in any sense, it emerges from the mud of mediocrity to put its head out and predict air, but it doesnt completely stand out from there, keeping tight the dictates of gangsta rap that brought Jay-Z to the top of the game: it presents a fairly mediocre first part and improves towards the end, without any commercial attempt, itd have been a good underground debut. I wasnt a big fan of late 90s Jay-ZRoc, as the beats basically sucked, but this was about the time Roc started ushering the age of Kanye and Just Blaze. Those two only produced one track apiece, but they are both good, with the title track produced by Kanye being a near classic in my book. Its a step above the other albums that cover these topics, yet its still fairly generic hip hop for the turn of the century. Beanie Sigel The Truth Lyrics Mac And BradRating: 3.5 Favorite Tracks: The Truth Raw and Uncut Remember Them Days Mac and Brad Published. Jay-Zs raps of the next year werent really too far from the reality as Jay-Z and his empire ruled the mainstream hip hop for the next years thanks to the newly-found KanyeJust Blaze sound. Beanie Sigel was one of Jays hyped proteges who is one nice rapper too, before Yeezys dominance it was between Bleek and Beanie who would claim the throne after Mr Carter would retire. The Truth is not the best album of 2000 by any means, it is quite close to the sound of The Dynasty with some excellent, some close-to-mediocre beat ideas and Beanies easy to relate to emceeing. I feel like the songwriting just aint the most exciting on this one, but the highlights The Truth, Who Want What, Raw and Uncut, What a Thug About and such are just too damn good to ignore. Constant bangs and well utilized modern Roc sound works pretty well even if as a whole The Truth aint all that exciting or ballsy.
